[Guest Post] Impact of Online Games on the Society in the Future

Over the years, online games have shown a tremendous growth in the society. Started off as a simple adventure game in the 1990s, online games are now developed into more high-tech and extremely more exciting forms. More and more people, especially the teenagers are getting hooked-up or have already been hooked up with various online games. The first ever form of online game introduced in the 1990s fell under the category of first-person shooter games which used a variety of LAN protocols. It was then followed by real-time strategy games which allowed multiple players to play over a local network or a modem. Later on, as the World Wide Web developed and internet browsers turned more sophisticated, web browser games were developed by several online games companies. The growth of graphic technologies like Flash and Java has even a paved way for more complex and more exciting online games.

Online games aren’t just contained in several online gaming sites because right now, they are already found in many giant social media sites. On Facebook for example, it is amazing how the game “Sims” is now integrated on the site, where you can display your game achievements and progress into your status and profile.

What gamers like about playing on social media sites is that, they get a chance to share the fun and excitement of playing with their friends. More so, they are also given the opportunity to meet new people and establish a circle of gamers where they can communicate freely. Though many critics question the significance of playing online games since they take up a lot of time and therefore often result to negative effects in a student’s grade, they also offer great advantages. Online games teach every person the value of teamwork, patience and help in the development of typing skills, problem solving and following directions.

Nowadays, online games do not only offer entertainment and excitement but also give great employment opportunities. There are many kinds of online games that pay people for merely playing the game. One of these games which let the players earn is the online bingo. Video games serve as a brain workout which affects the brain the same way as in playing the piano, studying the map or reading a book.

Do the household chores, take care of the kids, manage your business; your game console will always be there, waiting for you. The online games also promote camaraderie among people across the globe. By involving yourself in different online games, you get the opportunity to meet all types of people from different countries. Interracial friendship can be established. More so, online games can even lead you to real-time eyeballs. Meet new friends and even prospect relationship partners by just playing online games.

5. Social Isolation

Some people actually think that their newly-found friends through online games are more fun and exciting as compared to the friends they have near them. This may not be a good thing as this can result to social isolation. People with this kind of thinking may find themselves straying away from their old friends and chooses to hang out more often with their online friends. To prevent this from happening, online gamers must know how to keep the balance in treating both kinds of friends.

Some statements in this article may not be true for some people at some points. Bear in mind that this is an honest forecast based on my knowledge about the subject.
